Is Concierge Psychiatry Right for You?
By Kathie Bolles, PMHNP-BC
Concierge psychiatry is a membership model of psychiatric care that trades insurance-billing constraints for more time per appointment, continuity with the same clinician, and defined access between visits. It can be an excellent fit if you value those things and are able to pay directly for care. It is not emergency care, and it is not right for everyone; the practical way to find out is to talk with the practice. Mynd Works Psychiatry in Austin, TX explains its model openly, so you can decide with the facts in front of you.
How does concierge psychiatry work at Mynd Works?
Mynd Works offers three membership levels, Essential, Enhanced, and Elite, each building on the last, as detailed on the membership page. Membership funds the things fee-for-service settings often cannot provide: longer appointments, a consistent clinician, and defined communication access for routine needs between visits.
All levels include an initial evaluation, medication management, collaborative medication planning, a personalized treatment plan, measurement-based care, a functional medicine nutrition consult, and a confidential patient portal. Enhanced adds genetic testing, priority refills, a psychotherapy meet and greet, and ongoing support between sessions. Elite adds included functional or psychotherapy sessions and same-day response during business hours. Routine response expectations are 48 to 72 hours at the Essential level. Pricing is not published here; contact the practice to discuss current care options and membership details.
Who may benefit from concierge psychiatry?
People often choose concierge care because they want an unhurried initial evaluation rather than a checklist appointment, because they have complex medication questions that deserve time, or because they have been frustrated by rushed follow-up visits elsewhere. The same clinician each visit matters to many people, as does knowing how and when they can reach the practice between appointments.
Concierge care also suits people who want psychiatric care and psychotherapy or functional medicine nutrition coordinated under one roof, and those who travel, since telehealth is available where clinically appropriate.
Who might prefer another option?
Concierge care is not for everyone, and that is okay. Mynd Works does not currently bill insurance, Medicare, or Medicaid, so people who need or prefer insurance-based care will want to look at in-network options. People who can't fit membership into their budget, or who just need a single evaluation, may find other arrangements more practical.
And importantly, this model is not a substitute for emergency care. For an emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.
What questions should you ask yourself?
Ask yourself what actually matters: how much time and space you want in appointments, how important it is that the same clinician remembers your history, whether you want defined access between visits, whether integrated services like therapy and nutrition appeal to you, and whether a direct-pay membership fits your finances.
There is no right answer that fits everyone, only the answer that fits you. If you are not sure, ask the practice: a good concierge practice will answer honestly rather than overselling.
How do you get started?
Starting is straightforward: request a consultation online or call (512) 739-6566, and the practice will explain the model, answer your questions, and let you decide on next steps without pressure. The concierge psychiatry page and FAQ cover the most common questions.
